What anime-series will I be watching during Fall Season 2013?

As I made clear a few days back, I have a certain set of rules regarding my anime watching that tend to not be broken too often. I almost always watch a new show if it’s not a sequel and I will give any show three episodes to win me over before I drop it to the pits of despair where it tends to belong. But since the rules are guidelines more than anything, and you never know exactly what I end up missing, I figured I would list all the stuff that I am currently planning on watching, and give my quick expectations of the, if I have any. Hell, maybe I will make you want to watch something?

aceAce of Diamond

Studio: Production I.G/Madhouse (Colab)
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

A new thing I’m trying out this year is sports-anime. Ace of Diamond is a baseball focused anime. I like baseball enough to possibly enjoy this show, should be fun. I’ll admit, Madhouse have been FUCKING SHIT the last few shows they’ve made, but hey, maybe this will be their glorious return to form… C’mon Madhouse, just make Nobuna Season 2.

aikatsuAikatsu! 2

Studio: Sunrise
Episodes: 50 (Oh boy…)
Watch Status: Might Watch
Previous Series: Not seen (Working on it)
Starting: October 03 (Thursday)

So, Aikatsu! basically looks like it’ll be something along the lines of Pretty Rhythm in terms of light-hearted silliness, but with a idol-twist to it. This is how it was sold to me and why the first season interested me, I’ll see if I end up watching through season one before it starts airing, if not, I might still give it a blind go.

arpeggioArpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova

Studio: Sanzigen
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 08 (Tuesday)

I love old classic sci-fi anime. Be it Space Battleship Yamato, Starzinger or anything of that vein. Arpeggio doesn’t look like it’ll be exactly what those shows will offer, but a ship-based sci-fi story is enough to catch my interest. It’s interesting how the show is entirely CG too, something I’ve not had a problem with going by the PV, but it might just end up a problem in the end.

blazblueBlazBlue: After Memory

Studio: Hoods Entertainment
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 09 (Wednesday)

Hey, it’s BlazBlue, I like those games. Granted I’ve only played Calamity Trigger and the first Continuum Shift, but I should be able to enjoy this show on just that knowledge. If not, well then at least my reactions might be interesting. While last season screwed me over when it came to videogame adaptations by the abysmal DanganRonpa adaptation, hopefully this will prove more in my taste.

copelionCoppelion

Studio: GoHands
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 02 (Wednesday)

Here’s my past-experience with GoHands. I watched K, I loved K. There, that’s it. The premise for this show sounds interesting, what with the whole post-apocalyptic journey through a wasteland aspect. It’s about three girls send to look for survivors, three girls who seemingly don’t need protection against radiation unlike others. Interesting indeed. Though I’ll admit, the fact that they drew lines for blushing rather than just shading cheeks red is what caught my attention the most and I can not defend that for even a second. Welp.

diabolikDiabolik Lovers

Studio: Zecks
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Watching
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: September 16 (Monday)

So this show. I already reviewed this show’s pilot episode as it’s a early one. It’s about vampires wanting to forcibly have zecks (sorry) with a girl and then drink her blood. Oh boy, a harem-rape story where the harem are the ones doing the raping? That innovative… Or something. This show sucks so far, it really fucking sucks. But three episode rule… Read my review of episode one right here.

gaistGaist Crusher

Studio: Studio Pierrot
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 02 (Wednesday)

Gaist Crusher is a new game by Capcom which is basically what would happen if they made Monster Hunter for a younger audience, tossed in some sentai stuff and decided that Beast Wars was the best thing to ever happen to Transformers. I’m not sure if it sounds fucking awesome, or dreadful. I will have to watch to find up.

galileiGalilei Donna

Studio: A-1 Pictures
Episodes: 11
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 11 (Friday)

This is a show about three moons that have taken the form of three of Italian astronomer Galileo’s female descendants who are on international wanted lists. OF COURSE I’M FUCKING WATCHING THIS.

gingitsuneGingitsune

Studio: Diomedia
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 07 (Monday)

I like pretending that Diomedia is a anime studio started by Dio Brando. This show doesn’t really sound all that interesting, it seems to be sort-of a Japanese folklore-based Fantasy/Slice-of-Life show. It could be fun I suppose, I don’t think it’s going to be anything bad, but I can’t say it’s a major priority for me. But I’ll try it out.

goldenGolden Time

Studio: J.C. Staff
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 07 (Friday)

It’s a romcom about people studying to become lawyers. I’m not sure why that sounds so interesting to me, but it does. Maybe I’m expecting really clever jokes and banter based around legality laws and such, hopefully I’m not expecting too much. But it’s J.C. Staff, they know what they’re doing with clever comedy, just look at Joshiraku. No seriously, look at it and watch it, far too few people did. They’re also good with romance, I loved The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, which you should ALSO BE WATCHING. INTERNET. STOP IGNORING GOOD SHOWS.

gundamGundam: Build Fighters

Studio: Sunrise
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Manymanymanymany shows.
Starting: October 07 (Monday)

Gundam. They are giant robot suits. Now they are small robots that aren’t suits. I’m not a big Gundam specialist, I’ve seen Seed and 08th MS Team and maybe glimpses of some other show now and then. I like what I have seen and I am certainly willing to broaden my horizons on the franchise. What better way than to watch the show that sounds like Gundam’s Digimon-killer spinoff? Score!

killKill La Kill

Studio: Trigger
Episodes: 24
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 04 (Friday)

So, my past experience with the staffs pre-Trigger work hasn’t been all that good. I really don’t care for Gurren Lagann… Like, not at all. I also didn’t like Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and I’m wellknown for not liking the ever-so-popular FLCL. Now, with that said. Little Witch Academia was one of my favourite things so far of this year, and that was Trigger. And the PV for this show looks enjoyable, I love the main character’s design when she’s not “transformed”. There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not the show is sexist, I’ll refrain from commenting until I actually see the show.

kyoukaiKyoukai no Kanata

Studio: Kyoto Animation
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 02 (Wednesday)

What is this!? I thought KyoAni died when they decided to do Free!? That’s what the internet told me! INTERNEEEET! This show will seemingly be one of the more serious supernatural shows in terms of tone and content, and that interests me a whole lot from the get-go. I hope it doesn’t end up being this year’s Kokoro Connect in that it falls apart completely at the end.

kyousougigaKyousougiga

Studio: Toei Animation
Episodes: 13
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 03 (Thursday)

I am not sure what to think of this show, but I like the art-style. When the synopsis starts with “Three kids are stuck in a strange city causing massive mayhem. They are searching for an atypical rabbit in order to return home” I think it’s safe to assume that I might just as well go into this blind, because anything can happen.

litleLittle Busters: Refrain

Studio: J.C. Staff
Episodes: 24
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Seen most of it.
Starting: October 05 (Saturday)

I wasn’t that into the first season of Little Busters, but I will give it a chance. I tend to like Key stuff (except for Air) as I think they capture that weird sad-yet-happy feeling that shows of this genre wants to capture really well (except for Air) and while Little Busters wasn’t close to the quality of Angel Beats or Clannad (but miles beyond Air) it was still trying to reach that feeling. Maybe Refrain will get me there?

logLog Horizon

Studio: Satelight
Episodes: 25
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 03 (Thursday)

This show is Sword Art Online. Sword Art Online became shit after episode 7. Maybe this show will take the genuinely fun and interesting concept and not fuck it up? Seriously, it’s just Sword Art Online but with a different game and different characters. It’s almost plagiarizing, that’s how close the premise is. Neat!

magiMagi: The Kingdom of Magic

Studio: A-1 Pictures
Episodes: 24
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Seen most of it, will finish.
Starting: October 06 (Saturday)

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic was the best modern shounen action fantasy adventure show I had seen in forever. It blew me away with how much genuine quality went into both the writing and the visuals for a show that very well could have been a flop. I keep wishing for Magi to jump in and become one of the big ones. I want this show to be the next One Piece, because it’s THAT good.

meganeMeganebu!

Studio: Studio Deen
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 06 (Saturday)

FUJOSHI-BATE! I’LL TAKE IT. It’s a show about five cute boys with glasses who have a club together in high school. What more do I need? A good story, animation, pacing and characters? I guess, but hey, at least they’ve got cute boys right already, and that just might be enough… …but probably not.

nagiNagi no Asukara

Studio: P.A. Works
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 03 (Thursday)

I am a big fan of P.A. Works. I’ve not seen every show they’ve made, but every show I have seen from them I have enjoyed a whole lot. The fact that they’re doing a original show is awesome and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table. Not much information on the show seem to exist, but I’ll be there day one to check it out.

neppuNeppu Kairiku Bushi Road

Studio: Toei Animation
Episodes: ??
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Not Seen
Starting: October ??

This is one of those shows that might end up being delayed as there’s still no set date or episode count set. The show itself is to be a reboot of a existing series, basically a fantasy-mecha mix thing. i don’t know much about it, but if it shows up, I’ll watch it!

nonnonNon Non Biyori

Studio: Silver Link
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 08 (Tuesday)

Silver Link impressed me this season with two great shows in Prisma Illya and Watamote!, so I would be checking this out even if I wasn’t totally into slice-of-life shows. This is another one of those schoolgirls that are cute and go to school shows, I almost always enjoy these so I will probably enjoy this one too.

noucomeNoucome

Studio: Diomedia
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 10 (Thursday)

I like to pretend that Diomeida– I made that joke already. Noucome is a romance comedy about a boy with the magical power to affect the world through quick quizzes that will show up in his brain or something. It sounds weird enough to either be completely crap or brilliant depending upon execution.

outbreakOutbreak Company

Studio: Feel
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 03 (Thursday)

This show will most likely suck. It’s a cash in on the “boy ends up in fantasy world with moe girls” light novel adaptation trend that started because of Sword Art Online last year. It doesn’t look good at all to be honest, but since it’s not a sequel I will give it a chance. There have been times where I’m proven OH SO WRONG about shows when I expect them to be shit (see Love Live!, Mondaiji, Date-A-Live or Nyaruko-san).

pokemonPokémon XY

Studio: OLM
Episodes: 24
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Seen about half of them.
Starting: October 17 (Thursday)

So, Pokémon. I decided to try and jump back into this for a go this season, because why not? It’s worth a try. I like parts of the previous seasons and I watched the first six seasons or so without missing one episode. I’m also looking forward to picking up Pokémon X myself, so it might be fun to play it while watching the show on a weekly basis.

pupaPupa

Studio: Studio Deen
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October ??

Another one without a set date so far. I’ve heard really bad things about the Pupa manga, but I am always looking for good horror-stuff, so I will give this adaptation the benefit of the doubt and jump into it as blind as I can. It’s basically a cannibalistic incest horror romance story or something. Could… be… good? Maybe?

samuraiSamurai Flamenco

Studio: Manglobe
Episodes: 24 (First Cour: 12 this season)
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 11 (Friday)

Original shows are always appreciated in this sea of manga/LN/VN adaptations. Samurai Flamenco is a sentai samurai action show that looks and sound both insane and awesome. I’m not sure what else to say about this one, there’s not much to add to it. It sounds great.

seiyuuSeiyuu Sentai Voicetorm

Studio: N/A
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 05 (Saturday)

Unknown studio strikes again. I remember the terror-filled wait to find out who would be doing Watamote! last season. Seiyuu Sentai Voiceform is about seven warrior voice-actors who saves the world from the evil that tries to destroy moe. I’m not joking, that is the premise. It’s probably the dumbest premise this entire season, so of course I’m stupidly hyper-excited for it. HERE’S THE PROBLEM. It’s a motion-comic, so who knows if anyone will bother subbing it?

sekaiSekai de Ichiban: Tsuyoku Naritai!

Studio: Arms
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

Oh boy… I know I said I would be watching sports-shows, but I didn’t expect to end up watching Rumble Roses the anime. I really hope this will be good, I mean, it’s a ecchi wrestling show so I’m not expecting fucking Shakespeare or anything, I just hope it’s funny. If it’s funny, that’ll be great.

strikeStrike the Blood

Studio: Silver Link
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 04 (Friday)

Okay, let’s talk about shows that are stupid enough to be entertaining. Last year we had Code:Breaker, one of the dumbest most 90s-esque anime I’ve seen in years. It was amazing. This is what I hope Strike the Blood will be, it’s a show about a magician-spy who is actually a “sword shaman” who will be fighting a vampire in present day. Fuck yes.

tesagureTesagure! Bukatsu-mono

Studio: N/A
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

This is a CG slice-of-life show, guessing it’ll be a short-show as well. Could be fun, wonder who the studio will be? The show itself is actually a original creation, which is becoming far too uncommon for slice-of-life shows. Short show (probably), short expectation text.

tokyoTokyo Ravens

Studio: 8-bit
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 08 (Tuesday)

Tokyo Ravens is a supernatural action-comedy as far as I understand it. It’s about a guy who is from a magic family but can’t see magic energy like the rest of his family can, so he lives his life like a normal human being. Then his childhood friend comes out of nowhere, and of course she decides to fuck it all up and drag him into this reality where magic is part of everything. Sounds cliche, could be good.

unbreakableUnbreakable Machine-Doll

Studio: Lerche
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 07 (Monday)

This is a show that I want to watch just for the character design. That’s not to say the premise doesn’t sound… interesting. It’s a revenge story where the main character takes help from a puppet while they attend school. But the design of the titular Machine-Doll is just really appealing, I like it a lot.

valvraveValvrave The Liberator

Studio: Sunrise
Episodes: 24 (Second Cour: 12 this season)
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Seen First Cour
Starting: October 10 (Thursday)

The original Valvrave I enjoyed for the most part. While I did have problem with characterization and the writing for many of the female characters, I want to see the show to completion before I decide if it’s something worth talking about. I dropped the original show at a very infamous episode which I still don’t think had any place in the show, but we’ll see how it goes now that I’ve picked it back up.

walkureWalkure Romanze

Studio: 8-bit
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

Yay, show about riding horses! Oh wait, this is a ecchi harem show based on a eroge. This should be interesting, I have a feeling there won’t be much focus on girls riding horses, and the character designs support my suspicion. I’m actually looking forward to this one, I’m not entirely sure why, but I have been looking forward to this show since it was first announced.

whiteWhite Album 2

Studio: Satelight
Episodes: 13
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Not Seen
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

I have not seen the original White Album, but from what I understand this is a stand-alone story. I’ve been looking forward to another good romance drama show without a bunch of twists and genre mixes as I generally enjoy your average romance story. One of my favourite shows of last year was Say “I Love You” and while I don’t expect this to reach the same level of quality, I hope to find it above some other shows this season.

yowamushiYowamushi Pedal

Studio: Toho Company
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: N/A
Starting: October 08 (Tuesday)

Another sport show, this one about boys doing bicycle races. The show aims to toss in some comedy and drama as well, which could work I suppose, but I’m not holding my breath for this one. Bicycling might be exciting when animated, but I find it hard to really expect it to amaze me in any way.

yozakuraYozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta

Studio: Tatsunoko Productions
Episodes: 12
Watch Status: Will Watch
Previous Series: Not Seen
Starting: October 06 (Sunday)

In a town where humans and demons co-exist, it takes more than-bla-bla-bla-bla… This is another show that looks fine, but doesn’t seem to be doing much interesting to the medium. Now, that’s all just fine, but I do feel it’ll end up overshadowed by the actual interesting stuff this coming season. The fact that is a reboot will help though, I guess. But hey, a good shounen show is a good shounen show, so I’ll be checking it out either way.

And that’s it, there are the shows I’ll be watching this coming season.
